If you’re a property owner in Malaysia who rents out your premises, it’s essential to keep tabs on your tenant’s electricity consumption and payment status. This helps you stay informed and avoid potential issues when it comes to utility bills. In this guide, we’ll walk you through five easy steps to check your tenant’s TNB (Tenaga Nasional Berhad) bill using the myTNB portal:
Step 1: Register for a myTNB Account
Start by registering for a myTNB account, a free online service that enables you to manage your TNB accounts conveniently. Here’s how to register:
- Visit the myTNB registration page at https://www.mytnb.com.my/register.
- Sign up using your email address or mobile number.
Step 2: Add Your Tenant’s TNB Account Number
Once you’ve successfully registered and logged in to your myTNB account, you can add your tenant’s TNB account number to your profile. Follow these steps:
- Click on the “Add Account” button displayed on the dashboard.
- Enter the 12-digit TNB account number, which can be found on the top right corner of your tenant’s TNB bill. Alternatively, you can use your smartphone camera to scan the QR code on the bill.
- You can add up to 20 TNB accounts to your myTNB profile.
Step 3: Access Your Tenant’s TNB Bill Details
After adding your tenant’s TNB account number, you can view their bill details by following these steps:
- Click on the account name associated with your tenant’s TNB account on the dashboard.
- You will now have access to various bill details, including the billing period, due date, amount payable, outstanding charges, current charges, and consumption history.
- You also have the option to download or print the bill as a PDF file for your records.
Step 4: Make Online Payments for Your Tenant’s TNB Bill
If you wish to make online payments for your tenant’s TNB bill, you can do so directly through the myTNB portal. Here’s how:
- On the bill details page, click on the “Pay Bill” button.
- You will have two payment options: online banking and debit/credit card.
- For online banking payments, you’ll be redirected to FPX, where you can select your preferred bank and complete the transaction.
- For debit/credit card payments, you’ll be redirected to iPay88, where you can enter your card details and finalize the payment. Please note that TNB currently accepts Visa and Mastercard only.
Step 5: Manage TNB Account Tenancy Changes
If your tenant vacates your property and you need to transfer the TNB account to a new tenant or back to your name, you can initiate a Change of Tenancy (COT) process. This transfer ensures that the new tenant assumes full responsibility for the TNB account, protecting your rights as the property owner. Here’s how to perform a COT:
- Visit the nearest TNB Customer Service Centre.
- Bring along the required documents, including a copy of your identity card (IC) or passport, a copy of the sales and purchase agreement (SPA) or title deed, a copy of your tenant’s IC or passport, a copy of the tenancy agreement, and a letter of authorization from your tenant (if applicable).
- The TNB Customer Service Centre will guide you through the COT process, facilitating the change in tenancy.
By following these five straightforward steps, you can efficiently manage your tenant’s TNB bills and ensure a smooth transition between tenants. This proactive approach allows you to stay informed about electricity consumption and payments, reducing the likelihood of disputes and facilitating a hassle-free renting experience.
