5 Easy Steps to Update and Disable MySJ Trace in Malaysia

Are you wondering how to update and disable MySJ Trace, the new feature on MySejahtera app that replaces the check-in/out module? If yes, then you’ve come to the right place. In this article, we’ll show you how to do it in 5 easy steps. We’ll also explain what MySJ Trace is, why it’s important, and how it works.

What is MySJ Trace?

MySJ Trace is a new function on MySejahtera app that was launched on December 25, 2021, by the Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry, Health Ministry (MoH), and other agencies. It’s a joint effort to improve the contact tracing of Covid-19 cases in Malaysia.

MySJ Trace uses Bluetooth technology to detect close contacts of positive Covid-19 cases. It’s more efficient and accurate than the previous check-in/out module, which relied on QR codes and manual input.

Why is MySJ Trace important?

MySJ Trace is important because it helps the MoH to find, trace, test, isolate, and support positive Covid-19 cases and their close contacts. This is crucial to prevent and control the spread of Covid-19 in Malaysia, especially with the emergence of new variants like EG.5.

MySJ Trace also helps users to avoid visiting high-risk areas by showing them the hotspot tracker on the app. The hotspot tracker will be updated to track other infectious diseases such as rabies, measles, dengue, and hand-foot-and-mouth disease (HFMD) soon.

How does MySJ Trace work?

MySJ Trace works by using Bluetooth to exchange anonymized Unique User IDs (UUID) with other nearby users who have activated the feature on their smart devices. The UUID does not collect any personal data or geo-location of the users.

The UUID data is stored on the user’s device for 14 days. If a user is confirmed as positive for Covid-19, they will receive a notification from MySejahtera app to ask for their permission to share their close contact information with MoH.

If they agree, MySejahtera will provide MoH with access to their UUID data and conduct a risk assessment on their close contacts. MoH will then contact the close contacts for testing and isolation.

If they disagree, MySejahtera will not provide MoH with access to their UUID data. MoH will have to conduct a manual investigation based on their travel history and interview.
